welcome
Two magical factions crash landed on Earth thirty years ago, bringing with them amazing powers and war. The nature based Elementals and the mind based ESP have set up their respective camps in the forest and the city. On the surface, a shaky peace reigns. Non-magical folk struggle to adjust to the new comers, and many maintain a strong distrust of all magic and the violence it brought. Others, however, have chosen sides, and Old and New Magic alike comb the streets seeking to recruit allies as an underground guerilla warfare rages. Another war is coming and now it needs to be known: Which side are you on?
Currently, we have a ban on male ESP's. Please take a look at the stats to see what needs to be balanced! Help us Guest, you're our only hope!
For the few next days, the money you earn from posting has doubled! (Wooo!) Also, the member (not staff) who shows the most activity can talk with Parrot and we can plan something special for you. It could be a quest, a PvP thing, a special character, or the keys to a brand new car! (That was a joke) And if that doesn't interest you then we can discuss something else. My mind is always open ;)

Setting
Summer is here and with it comes the heat. The high is normally in the mid 90's- a blessing for some, a struggle for others. Those living in the city and town rely on air conditioning while the Elementals make due with the wind alone. Cicadas are starting to move out of the forest and into the town and they can be heard (quite loudly) every day.
Male OTM
Lynx If his charming half smile doesn't knock you off your feet than his witty one liners will. (That or he's going to trip you via Telekinesis.) Lynx is this month's winner for male OTM! A character who started off as an ass has actually turned out to be only kind of an ass. Lynx finds his pleasure in fast cars and even faster women, though this hasn't stopped him from protecting those he has reluctantly found himself caring for. Poor Lynx has spent more time being dragged through other people's mess that he hasn't had time to finish his car. Well, from all of us at WFM, we hope you get that time soon Lynx! Snarky Lynx is played by Devi.
Female OTM
Tabitha Holt Got hots for teacher? Well, who wouldn't when the teacher is Tabitha! This water Elemental has spent half of her time dragging Lynx around, recruiting him as an unlikely ally. Over the month Tabitha has seen her share of some grisly stuff- from drowning men (and women) to having her capture's head blown right off in front of her. She's no warrior but for some reason this little lady has been stuck fighting battles and running after kids instead of grading papers. Now with the FBI after her and the War Committee doubting her every move, we're pretty sure Tabitha's not going to get a break any time soon. Stubborn Tabitha is played by Parrot.
Thread OTM
Fanatically Fanatic If anyone says that WFM isn't action packed well they are wrong. Dead wrong. This thread is proof of that! We've got fanatics pulling people left and right off of the street, taking them hostage as they preach peace through violence. (Yeah, it works out as well as you think it would.) And soon four of our very own characters, who would normally never work together, have to overcome the fanatics and fight for their lives. Overcome they do, as Enzo blasts a guy's head off, Tabitha drowns a woman, Lynx throws chairs at people, and Asher shows off his acrobatic skills. In the end they make a getaway, but were they fast enough to avoid unwanted attention? Guess we'll find out when the site plot starts! Votes picked this thread for OTM due to its action and the fact that multiple players were involved. Thanks to all who contributed!
Member OTM
Dufflepud Congratulations to Duffle, our winner of member OTM! Duffle has been a great addition to WFM family as he brought with him the most awesome PvP factor to our site. Duffle has been great with his constructive ideas for the site and overall involvement. He is known to commoners as the Great and Powerful Arena Master but, humbly, prefers Duffle. He manages not only to run his own site, is active here, but he also goes on some pretty rockin' vacations. (Yes, we are very jealous. Thanks.) Duffle is always willing to give a helping hand to our guests and members, so, for that, we thank you. :)

Not many magic users traveled to the beach, or at least not to the location of the Rift and the Great Betrayal. It wasn’t because people were sentimental about the bloodshed that took place there or even scared of the ghosts that haunted the area. Perhaps elders and children clung onto those reasons, but not the folks in the middle. Those too young to partake in the battle personally and too old to be scared by stories had a different reason entirely. The Rift, more powerful than any type of magic out there, produced some sort of dampening field around that area of the beach, making even a master disconnected from his powers. That being the case, the red sands were often a no-no for both factions.
Yet, Tabitha couldn’t help the force that drew her to a different area of the beach. After all, the ocean was the largest body of water around these parts and if there were two things in the world that Tabitha could not deny, it would be her students and her element.
The woman sat, shoes off, toes in the water, as she lifted her head back and felt the sun’s warmth laze over her face. Shorts and a white t-shirt were the only things Tabitha wore today, a bit of a deviant from her normal attire but perfectly suitable for a beach day. Peeking one eye open, Tabitha watched as she played around with her element; beautiful ribbons of water twisted in the air at she willed them to. Bits of ocean debris washed up around her and this area of the beach was a shelly one. Rocks too occasionally littered the ground but it was still beautiful, at least to Tabitha. Her eyes switched from the ribbons to a crab that scuttled away from the scene to scurry into its home.
That’s when Tabitha saw the other person not that far from her. Quickly, Tabitha willed away the water, making it out that she had no powers at all. Perhaps the newcomer hadn’t seen her act. What was he doing here? This area was mostly abandoned. Tabitha’s teeth gritted together as she forced herself to be calm. He might just be on a walk, no need to overreact.

Enzo often walked up and down the Beach in his free time, scouring the sand for interesting rocks and shells. He had an ever expanding collection of items he'd collected sitting in a drawer in his room, but he noticed that they always looked prettier when he first found them. As he continued down the stretch he often visited, bare feet singing into the moist, clingy sand, a glimmer of light caught his eye. Ever attentive, he snapped his attention to the source of it. A woman lay on the beach, about a hundred yards away. Above her, swirls and eddies of water twisted around one another in an elegant dance. Any other person would have been transfixed by the beautiful sight, but Enzo was filled only with the instinctual desire to eliminate the largest threat to the sanctity of his environment.
"Elemental," he muttered under his breath, absentmindedly levitating a decently large rock into the air, before crushing it into thousands of fragments with a twitch of his hand. Although many other telekinetics could simply focus on an object and manipulate it, he found it much easier to channel the energy through his limbs. With another slight motion of his fingers, the fragments formed a small cloud, coalescing several inches above his outstretched palm.
Noticing his approach, the woman immediately let the tendrils of liquid sink back into the ocean, evidently hoping to deceive him into thinking her a mundane human. It was too late, however. Her death was imminent, and he would enjoy every moment of it. Allowing a grim, half-smile to play over his face, Enzo wordlessly fired off several of the razor sharp rock shards in her direction, accelerating them to extraordinarily high velocities. Given her display, she would no doubt be able to defend herself against such an attack, but there was no purpose in revealing the full extent of his power before the battle had even begun.

While Tabitha’s disliking for ESP’s had been drilled into her head since her childhood, she was not so ruthless as to outright attack one. She had been starting to have doubts about the New Magic faction since her encounter with Lynx, a wayward telekinesis who not only saved her life but also helped the teacher clean up her mess. So, Tabitha watched patently as the young adult (his age being another reason why she wasn’t going to attack) lifted a rock into the air. Another telekinesis, she thought, eyes narrowing as he crushed the object into a fine dust. What was this fool of a kid planning? Was he just trying to show off for the sake of pride alone or was he really going to attack Tabitha?
His next action answered her question.
A half growl, half yelp, popped out of her mouth as she willed the ocean water next to her to form a barrier in front of her. Tabitha’s barrier was about a foot wide, stretching from the shore to about six inches above her head. She had little time to make the block taller and for once the woman was grateful she had been sitting when the teenager attacked. The seawater churned in its case, swirling fast enough so that when the rock shards hit it they got caught in the current, losing their track in the liquid.
As soon as Tabitha stopped the rocks, she pushed herself off the ground, ignoring the sand that stuck to her exposed skin. She wasn’t even dressed for a fight. Tabitha directed the turning water into the ocean, throwing into the great shore so the ESP couldn’t use those rocks again.
“Don’t do this,” Tabitha yelled across the stretch that divided them, the vein in her neck popping out against her skin. Maybe if she just persuaded him (with the help of her power) or knocked him out, they could both get out of this without having a death on their hands. “Don’t throw away your life, kid!”
The waves near the kid roared louder as they crashed onto the bank, near enough to him to hit him with the spray. If he attacked again Tabitha would not hold back, but hopefully he’d leave.

When the wall of water went up in front of Tabitha, so did Enzo. Rapidly repelling off of the ground, he halted some thirty or forty feet above the sea level. Admittedly, the ocean wasn't the best place to attack a water elemental. His impulsiveness might very well cost him, but it was too late to back down. One he committed to a fight, he finished it for better or worse. Although he would have loved to snap back at her with a witty response, he instead ignored her words as she called out,
"Don't do this!" It wasn't worth the satisfaction to give away his change in position before he could take advantage of it. Taking a moment to gather together the energy stored in his body, he reveled in the gusts of winds coming off of the ocean that played through his hair, covering his uncovered skin in tiny flecks of saltwater. As the water barrier receded below, he directed his arms downwards, letting out a powerful telekinetic shockwave that created a deafening sonic boom as it careened through the air towards his target.

The boy wasn’t where he had originally been, which, for a moment surprised Tabitha. She’d heard of Telekinesis who could use their powers on their own body, allowing themselves to hover above ground and maybe levitate around as if they were flying. Her eyes instantly took to the air as she saw the boy floating high above her. That was high. Too high for what Tabitha would’ve pegged the teenager’s skillset at.
Tabitha had seconds to determine these thoughts before the boy pointed his hands at her and a sound ripped through the tranquility of the beach. There was no way Tabitha could dodge the fast powered attack, instead she did her best to summon water all around her, cocooning herself right before the blast hit her.
The water egg did little to stop the full attack. Buffeted by the physic blast, Tabitha’s body slung into the sand, the back of her legs and arms digging into the shells painfully. Tabitha gritted against the pain, as she drew the water surrounding her back into her body, eyes staring at the boy. The teacher could feel blood start to dribble out of her shell impaled arms and calves. Her head ached with each movement, but, luckily, her shield protected her from being knocked out right then and there.
Still lying on the sand, pretending to still be dazed, Tabitha summoned water a few feet behind the kid. Then, without wasting a moment, she shot the water out, its pressure nearing that of a fire hose. Hopefully that would get him out of the air.
“Stop,” she said again, pushing up off the ground, her mind pounding away, "You don't even know me!"

The geyser slammed full force into Enzo's face, the stinging seawater forcing its way down his throat. The sense of freedom and weightlessness instantly left as he plummeted from the air, still possessing the awareness to soften his fall, but not enough to prevent landing on the sand with a dull 'thump.' LEtting out a pained groan, he flipped over, sitting up briefly before immediately rocketing forward. Opening his mouth, he began to vomit up the water up the water, letting it all drain out into the dirt. After regaining his ability to breath, Enzo cleared his throat several times and slowly climbed to his feet by pushing himself up against a sea-polished boulder. Fortunately, this girl was reluctant to attack him. Otherwise, surely she would have been able to smother him once he'd fallen.
"I know you well enough, Elemental, and your restraint will cost you!" he spat, lifting up one arm and charging it with energy, while slowly strafing away from the Ocean. If he could get her away from the water, he might have a chance at ending this quickly. Otherwise, he wasn't so certain of what the outcome would be.

”Fine,” Tabitha thought miserably to herself, ”you leave me with no other option, child.”
The boy started to move away from the ocean, which, Tabitha had to admire his quick thinking, but as he circled away from the water, the teacher mimicked his movements. Instead of walking the same direction as the ESP, she stepped behind her into the surf, letting her back face the water. Her bare feet were planted directly into the wet sand, the waves circling around her skin, almost as if the water itself was reaching out to caress her. This way, if the ESP tried to use his powers to raise something near enough from the ocean current around her or use the sea itself against Tabitha, she would be able to feel the disturbance in the water. To better hone this skill, Tabitha slid her left hand into her short pocket, touching her rune, Laguz, to amplify her connection with water. The only downside to this position was the distance between her and her target. The further away the person, the harder it was for Tabitha to make water appear out of the air, so now she would have to form or draw her element near to her and then shoot it at the teenager.
The saltwater stung as the mist hit the cuts on her legs, but it was minor irritation that Tabitha could not afford to think about just yet. The teenager had his hand raised out at her, obviously channeling something. Just exactly what that something was, Tabitha had no clue, but it was best if she just threw him off for good measure anyways.
Pulling the saltwater from around her, she altered its form into baseball sized globes. Then, without her left hand leaving her pocket, she shot them at her enemy, aiming for his ears. If they landed then the water wound run into his ear canal, throwing his balance off, hopefully disrupting his own power, and maybe give Tabitha the chance to run.
And if she was really lucky, a few days from now he’d have a nasty ear infection.

"Damn!" he cursed, as she mirrored his movements, moving closer to the water. He levitated himself up above the sand bank behind him as he continued to move. Although he had allowed her to get closer to her element, he would retain the high ground, and therefore at least some measure of safety. Several clear-blue orbs lifted into the air, before hurtling towards him. He'd certainly afford that this woman was creative with her ability!
Drawing from the power in his hand, Enzo fired off several quick pulses, tracking the globes and evaporating them as they drew near. At high tide, the woman's already great power would only be greater. Great enough, even to defeat him in combat if he wasn't careful. However, if he could keep her occupied until low tide, he might be able to turn things around. Of course, that didn't mean he wouldn't still try to incapacitate her.
Continuing to circle around, he wracked his brain for a way to harm her. The first pulse had been lucky in that it had caught her by surprise, but now that she was prepared it would be like throwing punches at a mattress. He'd only tire himself out without causing any real harm. Suddenly, an idea sparked to life. She could easily deflect attacks in the air because water could move through it freely, and she already had her defenses up. However, the ground was a different story...
"Lets see how you deal with a pulse sent along a different medium," he muttered." Drawing more power from his reserves, he dragged it into his palms, before slamming them into the dirt and releasing the forward pulse in a rippling, transverse wave that tore through the sand. Although it was much harder to sustain underground, it was conversely much harder to stop.

Having her attack fail disheartened Tabitha, she had been banking on disorientating the ESP and escaping. Never before had Tabitha faltered in killing an enemy of her people, especially if they attacked first, but something held her back from drowning the man in front of her. Perhaps Tabitha could see too much of her students in him and her love for her pupils made the woman hesitant.
Compassion could get you killed in war.
Her foe muttered something inaudible that Tabitha couldn’t determine before he hit the ground with his powers. Hard. There was no way Tabitha could stop the earth from hitting her, not even water could slow down the speed of his assault. The only thing Tabitha could do was dodge it.
She must have looked so foolish, sloshing her way through the tide, too worried about the attack than focusing on manipulating the water around her feet so she could run without the current’s hindrance. But Tabitha was not meant for more physical tasks, her body was not made that way. Although it was thin and lean, that was more do to her metabolism than working out.
The tip of the blast made the ground underneath her split and roar, sending the woman tumbling down to the ground. Wet sand clung to her body and Tabitha’s head pounded from the impact. She pulled herself up, half sitting, half crouching on the sand, eyes narrowing at the teenager. It was a dangerous position to be in and with her foe still hovering above her. It was a tactically brilliant plan on his behalf.
Time to bring him down, quite literally.
Touching Laguz, Tabitha pulled both water from the ocean and inside of her as she made two large waves from the ocean. The move would leave her physically drained but hopefully it could pummel the ESP to the ground. From the sea the two waves roared high as they loomed over her foe, falling against their own weight as they threatened to crush him on their way down to the ground.
