A word from Dufflepud,
There are two forms of player versus player combat in the RP - Casual PvP, in which a character only dies if the player agrees to kill them off, and "competitive" PvP, which is a staff judged match. Casual PvP generally consists of a back and forth of relatively short posts, usually consisting of an action made against opposing character, as well as a response to the other character's last action. However, the biggest difference between PvP and generic combat roleplaying is that all actions made against the other character have to be attempts. In effect, you cannot describe the consequences of your actions.
For example, instead of:
"Person A fired his pistol at person B, and the round slammed into her shoulder, sending up a spray of blood and bone fragments."
it would be:
"Person A pulsed the trigger of his pistol in rapid succession, aiming directly at person B's center of mass."
In casual PvP, the second player would respond, maybe with a dodge, and describe what impact the attack had on their character. Although the result is up to them, generally they are expected to be realistic, and not repeatedly have their opponent's attacks miss entirely.
However, in competitive PvP, the second player would respond with another attempted action. For example instead of:
"Person B hit the floor, and the bullets pinged off of the wall behind her."
They would say
"Person B hit the floor, hoping that the bullets would pass overhead without harming her."
In that case, after each player had posted once (an action and a response for each player), a staff member, or whoever is judging the match, would post with the results. So, if we take our two competitive examples from above:
"Person A pulsed the trigger of his pistol in rapid succession, aiming directly at person B's center of mass."
And then, in response:
"Person B hit the floor, hoping that the bullets would pass overhead without harming her."
The judge would post with an objective verdict based on the player actions.
"Person A fires three bullets in person B's direction, who instinctively hits the floor. The first one grazes her back, tearing a bloody trail almost a foot through her skin and flesh, but the remainder hit the wall behind her and she is mostly unharmed."
In effect, both players are trying to "out write" each other so as to kill the other player's character.
While casual PvP can end at any time, generally we only allow competitive PvP to end if both players agree (so that there's some risk involved in entering one).
Rules,
-Dufflepud runs the arena so his word goes. The only ones who can override him are the Admins. If there a problem then please contact an Admin in private and it will be dealt with.
-No godmodding. This is a rule already but it's especially important for things like this.
-Characters can only die if the player of that character consents.
-If you would like to contest a decision made in competitive PvP, contact the judge and explain your reasoning for why they misjudged the course of events.
-Effects that permanently damage a character must be consented to by the player.
-Competitive matches may only end prematurely if both players agree.
-Remember, if your character is wounded, try to incorporate that into your rp! Make things interesting. Additionally, injuries suffered by your character will be taken into account when your match is being judged.
-Casual PvP can happen any time, tournaments will run on specific events and will have their own brackets and winners.
-If you would like to take part in a competitive match to the death with another player, simply contact a judge. Only do this if you don't mind risking the life of your character.
A big thank you to Dufflepud for helping PvP come alive at WFM!
