Character InfoName: Lynx (no known last name)
Race: Magical Human
Sex: Male
Age: 27
Faction: New Magic
Power: Telekinesis
Rune or code: Lynx ran away not long before he was supposed to undertake his quest. As such, he has no code and therefore no access to the super computer.
Appearance: Lynx is fairly average in all aspects of appearance. He is average height, average weight, and neither strikingly handsome nor noticeably unattractive. He’s about 5’9 with a lean build that’s more naturally athletic than purposefully sculpted, and he’s handsome enough to be pleasing without being overly memorable. Dirty blonde hair is typically unkempt, as is the rest of him, and his most notable feature would be the pair of startling blue eyes that some women might call “deep.”
Personality: On the surface, Lynx appears devilishly charming, and he is indeed charismatic. However, he is also quite selfish and has no qualms about putting himself before… well, anyone. He is impulsive and carefree with a dangerously devil-may-care attitude. He’s too lazy to work, so he puts forth double the effort to avoid it. Immature? Definitely. But don’t be fooled; Lynx is exceptionally intelligent, perhaps too intelligent for his own good. He is clever, resourceful, and a creative problem solver when he needs to be, but he lacks the ambition for any of these traits to be worthwhile for anyone in the world but himself. Lynx is also incredibly cynical, though one wouldn't guess it at the start.
Strengths: Magic-wise, Lynx is exceptional at utilizing his telekinesis with finesse. He can pick locks, hotwire a car, snag a wallet, or thread a needle with extremely precise movement. He’s also good at working multiple (small) objects at once. Aside from that, he’s a talented bullshitter and has a gift for talking his way out of sticky situations. He loves fast cars and motorcycles and is a great (if not a little crazy) driver.
Weaknesses: Although great with precision and multi-tasking, Lynx lacks strength with his telekinesis and has extreme difficulty moving large/heavy objects. He doesn’t work at it, either, so it’s doubtful this will improve much until he does. He is impulsive and can be hot headed, and he has a distinct weakness for alcohol and pretty women (put the two together, and he’s a goner).
Biography: Lynx was not always called Lynx, and at one point he had a full name and a family to go with it. His parents were both exceptionally gifted ESPs and both were extremely dedicated to their cause… so dedicated, in fact, that one might call them fanatical. Both Lynx and his sister- yes, he had a sister, a
little sister, in fact- were raised almost militaristically. They trained daily, and Lynx mastered his telekinesis at a fairly early age.
As his parents didn’t make much money, Lynx, his sister, his mom, and his dad all lived in a two bedroom apartment. The family was close, though, and it was not a problem. Lynx especially treasured his little sister, and protecting her from the evil of the Elementals was his chief duty. Then one day, while Lynx’s parents were out, there was a fire.
Lynx had decided to pop down to the convenience store located on the bottom floor of the building they lived in. While he was waiting in line to ring up, an explosive fight erupted in the middle of the store. Lynx had never seen any of the men before, but he could tell from his training which ones were ESP and which ones were Elementals. Although brief, the fight was massively destructive. Lynx immediately jumped in to help, using his telekinesis to slam one of the Elementals against an ice cream machine and holding him immobile. That’s when the explosion occurred.
Lynx would never know who saved his life, though somebody must’ve pulled him out of the building before it collapsed in a fiery heap. When he awoke he was in the hospital, and his sister was dead.
Lynx’s parents were nearly driven mad with vengeance. They were certain the Elementals had started the fire and killed their baby girl, but for all their fervor and conviction, Lynx wasn’t sold on the idea. Lynx couldn’t help but feel like it had been the ESP, not the Elementals, who had caused the fire. He didn’t have proof, and he couldn’t recall exactly what it was he had seen, but he could
feel it in his bones. He just knew.
The fanaticism his sister’s death brought about in his parents and the apathy it brought about in him tore the family apart. Sick of the war and the collateral damage and anger, Lynx left home at 15. Rather than training to fight, Lynx honed his skills for more practical purposes: pick pocketing and mechanics. He got a part time job at a garage which he excelled at- when he chose to show up for work, that is.
Eventually he left his job and made a decent enough living between the random odd job and stealing. For ten years he has lived his life on the margin of society, enjoying a fair amount of obscurity. He avoids the ongoing conflict between ESP and Elementals with fervent tenacity, and his loyalties lie only with himself.
Other: Lynx's one true friend is a pit mix he found as stray puppy. The dog's name is Max, and he's now four years old. Lynx doesn't own him so much as they just hang out a lot, or at least that's how Lynx thinks of it.
