welcome
Two magical factions crash landed on Earth thirty years ago, bringing with them amazing powers and war. The nature based Elementals and the mind based ESP have set up their respective camps in the forest and the city. On the surface, a shaky peace reigns. Non-magical folk struggle to adjust to the new comers, and many maintain a strong distrust of all magic and the violence it brought. Others, however, have chosen sides, and Old and New Magic alike comb the streets seeking to recruit allies as an underground guerilla warfare rages. Another war is coming and now it needs to be known: Which side are you on?
Currently, we have a ban on male ESP's. Please take a look at the stats to see what needs to be balanced! Help us Guest, you're our only hope!
For the few next days, the money you earn from posting has doubled! (Wooo!) Also, the member (not staff) who shows the most activity can talk with Parrot and we can plan something special for you. It could be a quest, a PvP thing, a special character, or the keys to a brand new car! (That was a joke) And if that doesn't interest you then we can discuss something else. My mind is always open ;)

Setting
Summer is here and with it comes the heat. The high is normally in the mid 90's- a blessing for some, a struggle for others. Those living in the city and town rely on air conditioning while the Elementals make due with the wind alone. Cicadas are starting to move out of the forest and into the town and they can be heard (quite loudly) every day.
Male OTM
Lynx If his charming half smile doesn't knock you off your feet than his witty one liners will. (That or he's going to trip you via Telekinesis.) Lynx is this month's winner for male OTM! A character who started off as an ass has actually turned out to be only kind of an ass. Lynx finds his pleasure in fast cars and even faster women, though this hasn't stopped him from protecting those he has reluctantly found himself caring for. Poor Lynx has spent more time being dragged through other people's mess that he hasn't had time to finish his car. Well, from all of us at WFM, we hope you get that time soon Lynx! Snarky Lynx is played by Devi.
Female OTM
Tabitha Holt Got hots for teacher? Well, who wouldn't when the teacher is Tabitha! This water Elemental has spent half of her time dragging Lynx around, recruiting him as an unlikely ally. Over the month Tabitha has seen her share of some grisly stuff- from drowning men (and women) to having her capture's head blown right off in front of her. She's no warrior but for some reason this little lady has been stuck fighting battles and running after kids instead of grading papers. Now with the FBI after her and the War Committee doubting her every move, we're pretty sure Tabitha's not going to get a break any time soon. Stubborn Tabitha is played by Parrot.
Thread OTM
Fanatically Fanatic If anyone says that WFM isn't action packed well they are wrong. Dead wrong. This thread is proof of that! We've got fanatics pulling people left and right off of the street, taking them hostage as they preach peace through violence. (Yeah, it works out as well as you think it would.) And soon four of our very own characters, who would normally never work together, have to overcome the fanatics and fight for their lives. Overcome they do, as Enzo blasts a guy's head off, Tabitha drowns a woman, Lynx throws chairs at people, and Asher shows off his acrobatic skills. In the end they make a getaway, but were they fast enough to avoid unwanted attention? Guess we'll find out when the site plot starts! Votes picked this thread for OTM due to its action and the fact that multiple players were involved. Thanks to all who contributed!
Member OTM
Dufflepud Congratulations to Duffle, our winner of member OTM! Duffle has been a great addition to WFM family as he brought with him the most awesome PvP factor to our site. Duffle has been great with his constructive ideas for the site and overall involvement. He is known to commoners as the Great and Powerful Arena Master but, humbly, prefers Duffle. He manages not only to run his own site, is active here, but he also goes on some pretty rockin' vacations. (Yes, we are very jealous. Thanks.) Duffle is always willing to give a helping hand to our guests and members, so, for that, we thank you. :)

Tabitha was content as she titled her head up to the sun, her legs dangling off the edge of the dock that stretched above the lake. A few fishermen were on the other side of the lake and one was even using his fire power to cook his catch right then and there. The smell of seafood filtered over to Tabitha on the wind as she breathed it in. By the shore Tabitha could see a shifter turn into a large dog to give his young child a ride around the lake.
Lazily, Tabitha created several orbs of water which floated around her head, reflecting the sun off of their surface. It was a beautiful weekend day and Tabitha was grateful she wasn’t spending it locked inside some room with the War Committee blathering over one decision or the next. She had even cancelled her classes, letting her students frolic outside or do whatever they fancied.
It was days like this that Tabitha didn’t let herself think about the ESP’s, her family, or any other stressors that plagued her mind. No, she was determined to enjoy herself. Though, the more Tabitha sat on the dock, the more she realized that a bit of company wouldn’t be that bad. Maybe she should’ve asked one of her friends to go hiking near the mountain base or even join the fishermen on the other side.
With a sigh Tabitha returned her attention towards the orbs of water she created. She twirled them out, made them into spirals, and altered them into miniature fishes. The teacher had to laugh, thinking at what an absorb sight she must have made at the moment. Without even giving it any thought, the balls of water suddenly evaporated as Tabitha willed them away from existence.
Perhaps she’d go for a swim in the lake. She didn’t even need to change into a swimsuit for that as the water Elemental had mastered a way around getting wet in water. The woman shrugged to herself, rolling her shoulders out as she tried to make up her mind on what to do.

Aria stared at the book in front of her, she was supposed to be reading it but the outside kept calling her name. It looked like such a pretty day but no she was stuck in doors trying to catch up on her reading. Like so many times she had put this book until last minute and now her mom wanted it back for some reason. "Screw it." she mumbled as she closed the book. There was no way she could miss such a nice day for a book. No, nope, no way jose. She could pull an all-nighter when it came to reading it could happen any time.
After a moment Aria decided that the best course of action would be to head to the lake. Maybe get her feet a bit, the highest she would go in is to the stomach. She wasn't much of a swimmer and there was no way she would drown to death. To slow, if she knew she would kick the bucket soon, a quick, painless death would definitely be preferred all though she probably had no say in the matter.
She followed the path of the breeze and eventually came to scent of fish. As always the lake seemed to be lively. Eventually her walk brought the teen to the dock, where a familiar figure was sitting manipulating the water. She was slightly jealous of those that could shape their elements. Aria knew it was possible for her to do so as well, but it’s not like anyone would see it. "Hello." she said, smiling slightly as she approached the figure. Maybe, just maybe, she could learn to do something similar to that but with wind instead.
"Sorry if I'm disturbing but..." she paused unsure whether she should continue after all she didn't want to look or sound like an idiot. "Do you think that its possible for me to shape other elements? You know like with wind currents or something like that?" she asked, she was actually curious for the answer; after all she was still learning.

Tabitha turned her head at the sound of the voice, craning her neck to see who had asked her such a question. The girl wasn’t a student of Tabitha’s but the water Elemental was certain that she was still a pupil, especially after the question she asked. Lifting herself off of the ground, quickly scrapping her backside free of dirt from the dock, Tabitha smiled back at the girl. Teaching was always something Tabitha was willing to make time for.
“Yes,” the woman nodded, “with the right practice you could control your element, which I’m guessing is wind, to hold water and fire. I’m not too sure about earth though, but I assume if the wind is fast and tight enough you could carry it.”
She rubbed the back of her neck where a fading bruise was located. “Actually, I bet you could hold almost anything in a wind vortex, not just elements, depending on the size. But it would have to be strong. Water would probably be the easiest thing to start with.”
That’s when the idea struck her. If the girl was willing, which Tabitha assumed she would be since she asked, then Tabitha could help her train.
“My name is Tabitha,” she smiled, taking in the girl’s appearance. A very pretty young thing and she definitely had the feel of air about her. Tabitha mused if she was the same girl some of her male students talked about. “Why do you ask?”

Aria's blue eyes widened, so it was possible to hold other elements. She listened intently taking a mental note of everything she said. After all she was a teacher not a wind one but still. It was better to broaden one's horizon about other magic than just focus on one. Spreading herself out was a talent for Aria, in the matter of learning so to speak.
"Water eh?" she mumbled turning towards the lake. Her mind whirred; she could just practice here considering there was plenty of water around. It would be the easiest after all... at least that's what Tabitha said. Well that's what they always said but then it turns out its way more complicated than it should be, that's how it felt like anyways.
"Oh, I'm Aria." she said smiling. "I sort of want to make little fishies out of water like how you were doing." she said, chuckling slightly. As soon as those words processed she realized how childish it must have sounded. "But I'll just stick to making a water vortex." she paused an idea striking her, "maybe even a water tornado! That would be so cool." she said her faces brightening. Sure fire would look so much cooler but it would be much more danger and no, she was also scared of burning to death. One step at a time girl.
"Can you help me? Please? With a cherry on top?" she asked, giving her best puppy eye look.

Tabitha watched calmly as the Aria’s words raced out of her mouth as fast as the wind. It was very much in a wind Elemental’s nature to literally talk as they thought, every sentence coming out as a gush. Aria’s energy seemed to find its way into Tabitha as she nodded back at the girl.
“Hey! I love fish!” she laughed playfully, “There’s nothing wrong with shaping elements into animals or other shapes. Useless in battle, I’ll admit, but it’s a great party trick. Vortexes are better suited if you ever get into a fight.”
Aria didn’t even needed to offer her the puppy dog eyes, Tabitha would have helped the girl no matter what, cute eyes or no. She just hoped that Aria wouldn’t be discouraged if she didn’t get it exactly right on the first time. Not even Tabitha could create an orb of water on her first try as a novice- they always came out wobbly much to her father’s disappointment.
Jerking her head to an empty grassy area near the shore, Tabitha started to walk. “Here, let’s move off the pier so we don’t disturb anyone else.” As Tabitha moved she created a small orb of water that hovered at eye line with Aria. She waited patiently for Aria to join her in the secluded area, listening to the fishermen’s laughs from the other side of the lake.
“First thing I want you to do, Aria, is cut the water in half in any way you can with the wind. Because I don’t know how much you’ve mastered your element you can then shape the ball any way you want. If you need more water let me know.”

Aria followed Tabitha to the spot she indicated. It did seem like a better idea to actually be farther away from the wood dock, where the deep portion of the lake may be under it. Less chances of something going wrong and landing her in the water. Though she was one-hundred percent sure Tabitha wouldn't let her drown and die at such a young age.
Cutting water, that shouldn't be so bad. She had cute grass before, and branches and once a small portion of everything in the woods. That was definitely not one her proudest moment of magic considering she destroyed the homes of animals. She took a couple of small breaths before she focused on the air around the balloon, she began the process of speeding up the air in order to make it razor sharp. Sort of like a sideways mini, a very mini hurricane. She lifted her hand did the karate-chop motion, slicing the water vertically.
"How was that?" she asked. Slicing small things she could handle, bigger things like boulders... well that wasn't so easy for her the heavier the more trouble she had.

“Perfect!” Tabitha said as she reformed the water into another ball, her hands gently resting on her hips. “Seems like you can control your wind, but,” the teacher smiled, “you’ll need a little more control for this next trick.”
The water then spread out from its circular shape to form what appeared to be a thick sheet of floating paper. Tabitha continued to instruct Aria to force the sheet back into a ball using her powers. If the girl could manage this task then they would move onto more complex shapes and finally a basic outline of an animal. By then, Tabitha figured, they would have to part for the day and Aria could practice on her own to add detail to the animals. She didn’t even need another Elemental to help provide the substance to mold- a bowl of tap water would easily suffice.
Late afternoon was starting to descend on the lake but many of the people still crowded around the lake. Around this time of year night came quickly and people milked as much daylight as they could, especially on such a beautiful days like this. Tabitha opened her mouth, ready to tell Aria to begin, when she heard a man yell out.
Tabitha snapped her head towards the sound, afraid that the ESP’s were finally attacking their protected fortress. But, instead of seeing enemies rushing the area, all that greeted Tabitha was the father from earlier who appeared in his human form instead of a dog. He seemed frantic as he called out again and this time the words reached Tabitha’s ears.
“Ash! Ashley, where are you?!”
By now the fishermen had walked over to the father but the man wasn’t having any of it as he pushed them away and continued to call for his daughter. Tabitha frowned and turned back to Aria to see what the young girl made of it all.

Aria's smile grew, she felt elated from knowing she had done it right. At least all that practice was paying off for the young Elemental. She watched and listened carefully as the water formed to become a sheet of water. More control, all right, she knew she could do it if she really tried. Didn't seem to complicated either, she figured she would probably have to make sort of a cage of wind around it then find a way to manipulate the water into ball while it was still wrapped by the wind.
Piece of cake... well maybe.
Aria wiped beads of sweat from her forehead with the sun up at its peak, it was pretty warm outside. She ignored the heat and her surroundings preparing her mind to do the task ahead of her. A man's yell quickly broke her from her trance. He sounded frantic, she couldn't help but wonder what was wrong. Her eyes scanned the situation at hand and she couldn't help but notice that the child he was with was missing.
"We should go see if we can help." She said, before beginning to walk towards the man. The woods weren't exactly the safest place for a kid. Aria hoped that nothing bad happened to the little girl.

Tabitha didn’t even have the time to respond before Aria quickly hurried over to the frantic father. A part of Tabitha, probably the old fart inside of her, frowned at such reckless action, but, given the circumstances, she knew it was the right thing to do. The woman had to jog to reach Aria, the sheet of water instantly disappearing as they left their little training session. Upon reaching the father, Tabitha could definitely tell that his girl was missing- not just hiding playfully from her dad. A deep fear spread throughout Tabitha’s body as she empathized with the man’s pain. She couldn’t fully understand what he was going through, she had no children of her own, but she knew the loss of those students who were close to her and had died later on in life.
Without letting any of the others know, Tabitha used her water connection to sweep the nearest area of the lake. Skimming from the top and going about a quarter way across the lake, Tabitha pulled her focus to see if there was a body disrupting the water. At one point Tabitha reached into her pocket to touch her rune, Laguz, to draw even more power as she searched. The teacher kept a straight face, only stopping once when she started to reach the center of the lake.
That’s when something in the water kicked her presence back to the surface.
Her eyes widened as sweat started to pool at the base of her neck, running down into the collar of her shirt. That had never happened before. Water never rejected Tabitha. That meant there was something else, something powerful, in the lake that had done that. Tabitha frowned. She would have to tell the War Committee about that…or go down there herself one day.
But that wasn’t a problem for today and Tabitha hadn’t found any signs of the little girl’s body in the water so the teacher was certain she hadn’t drowned.
They finally reached the father, a man who had to have been only a few years older than Tabitha, as he shouted angrily at the fishermen.
“How could you’ve not seen her?” he growled at them, whipping his head around to yell at the others who’d circled around him, “How did any of you miss seeing her run off?”
The man’s body was shaking, a dangerous sign for a shifter, and Tabitha frowned again. This was going to get a lot worse if they didn’t stop it.
“Here, sir,” she called over to him, “I’m from the War Committee, what seems to be the problem?”
The father shook his head, beating his palms together in a perfect display of grief. “My daughter, Ashley, is lost. I think she went into the woods but I’m not sure. She could be anywhere!”
Tabitha calmly laid a hand on his shoulder, offering the man a sincere look. “I can go look for him, my friend as well if she wants to. You stay here to make sure she doesn’t run back, alright?”
He nodded bleakly at them.
“Aria,” Tabitha started, removing her hand as she looked over to the girl, “I’m sorry to drag you in this but I’ll need your help looking for the girl if we go into the forest. Are you okay with that?”

The man was shaking; Aria knew that wasn't a very good sign. It didn't take a genius to figure out that shifters could go berserk when they were upset or angry. This man clearly looked pissed that no one had seen his daughter running off, but he should have been paying more attention. She didn't necessarily blame him either the pain of losing someone must be the worst ever. She could barely imagine losing her mother, there was no way she would be able to handle it. They had to find that kid, they just had too, if anything bad happened to the little girl... she didn't want to think about that. Aria had the confidence that they would find the kid in good health.
Aria nodded furiously, her blonde waves bouncing with the movement. "Of course I'm okay with it." she said before turning to the man, who seemed to be now lost. "Don't worry sir, we'll find her." she said trying to be reassuring; there was no way she was going to let him down or herself.
Aria looked at the woods before her, a starting point would be difficult to pick. Just then a breeze floated by, she turned to the direction the wind was heading. Once again, just like so many times before, she got a feeling that she should follow it. She just hoped this feeling was right, time was of the essence; the night could be a little devilish in the woods.
"We should start there." she calmly said pointing to a spot a little to her right were a cluster of trees were surrounded by bushes. She began entering the woods, figuring that Tabitha was probably behind her after all they were in this together. She knew walking in first might be reckless but that didn't really matter to her. Certain parts of the woods weren't unfamiliar to her so she wasn't too scared right now. All that was going through her mind was finding that little kid safe and sound.
"Umm… Tabitha, how exactly are we going to find her?" she asked turning to water Elemental. She was pretty sure just feeling might not be enough. Aria wondered whether she could use wind to hear ahead or maybe feel ahead. Being from a modest family, she wasn't sure what was possible or not, but she was dealing in magic so anything could be possible.

Reassuring the father that they were going to do their best to find his little girl, Tabitha gave his arm a pat and quickly hurried off to follow Aria. The girl seemed to know where she was going as she headed into the forest, even offering up a place for them to start at. Tabitha nodded her head in agreement as she pushed her into the woods. Luckily, since time was not on their hands and the pair had to be quick, this area of the forest wasn’t as dense as it was further on; eventually, it cleared out the nearer you got to the town.
Tabitha’s mouth was pressed into a thin line as she studied the woods, her eyes sweeping over thickets of bushes, wildflowers, looming trees, and even the occasional fallen log. They were nowhere near the river, however, so Tabitha had no way of scanning the ground like she had done with the lake. Perhaps she could create a long ribbon of water and felt for the child that way but that would send out too many false signals each time the water hit a tree.
“I’m not too sure,” Tabitha replied quietly, swamp colored eyes narrowing at the large space which loomed ahead of them.
How far could a young child get before someone notice she wasn’t there? ”Too far,” Tabitha thought to herself. If the kid, Ashley, was scared off by something that meant she could be miles away before the adrenaline wore off and she’d realized daddy wasn’t there. That made things even worse, though, because as soon as Ashley saw her dad wasn’t there to protect her then she might run even more. All of this was just pure speculation, however, and Tabitha literally had nothing to go on.
The teacher turned her attention back to Aria, hoping that the young wind Elemental could work her powers where Tabitha’s element failed. “I don’t know if this is true,” Tabitha admitted, “but I’ve heard from some of my students that wind Elementals can listen or feel the vibrations in the air to locate the source of the sound. Can you actually do that?”
