Character InfoName: Theodore Alexander Eylam Belcroft, or just Theo
Race: Magical Human
Sex: Male
Age: 16
Faction: New Magic
Power: Exceptionally powerful Precognition
Rune or Code: Has not acquired one yet
Appearance: At 16, Theo hasn't quite grown into himself and is rather tall and gangly. As he is mostly kept inside, often under surveillance, he isn't particularly athletic or muscular, but rather is just a scrawny teen with oversized ears. He has promises to be handsome, however, with jet black hair and dark blue-gray eyes and a kind smile.
Personality: Having been confined to the city for most of his life, with the majority of his time spent in the Skyscraper under the careful watch of the ESP leaders, Theo is pretty sheltered. However, he is a fun loving kid with vivid imagination groomed from years and years of reading every book he can get his hands on. It was about his only means of escape as a child, as he's been closely guarded since the potential of his powers were first discovered. This love of reading coupled with his visions of the future and the happenings of the world has made him wise beyond his years, yet he maintains a certain naivety and lack of social understanding from growing up so incredibly sheltered; his books have given him a very romanticized view of the world and all the conflict within it, and he has a very "love conquers all" mentality.
Although Theo loves his people and has accepted the immense burden he has been given, he longs to be free of the constant surveillance so that he may go out and explore the world on his own. He enjoys meeting new people, and he has an almost unhealthy trust in them as he has never experienced betrayal of trust. He is friendly and outgoing and curious, and even though he has been raised to believe the Elementals are crazy, bloodthirsty barbarians, Theo yearns to know more about them, perhaps even meet one!
Strengths: Theo’s precognition is so strong that if he focuses properly, he can perceive the immediate future and make decisions based on which outcome would be most favorable to him. He is knowledgeable and well read and is truly, deeply, genuinely a good person who wants to make the right decisions and do the right thing.
Weaknesses: Due to his extremely powerful gift, Theo often suffers migraines, some of which are so strong he ends up bed ridden. Additionaly, Theo most work constantly to control his gift or else it can overpower him, and sometimes visions are so strong he cannot contain them. In these moments, they will overcome him unexpectedly, impairing whatever activity he is doing at the moment (much like a seizure). Theo is also far too trusting of people and can easily be taken advantage of, as he really doesn't know any better.
Biography: Theo's parents were killed in the war when he was only a year old. He has no memories of them, but he dreams of their deaths often. It is widely believed that Theo has had the gift of precognition since the moment he was born, for even as a newborn he suffered turbulent nightmares and would often have "fits" while he was awake. After his parents died, Theo was raised in an orphanage until he was about three when the potential of his gift started becoming apparent. Excited by a child who could so vividly see the future and the world around him, the ESP leaders pulled Theo from the orphanage and raised him in the Skyscraper instead.
Controlling his gift was extremely difficult, and as a child it was far more of a curse than a blessing. Yet the best of the best worked tirelessly with the young boy, training him from the moment he could comprehend instruction. He grew up well disciplined in his practice, as he really didn't have much of a choice otherwise. Neither the ESP nor his gift ever left him alone long enough to even dream of being lazy. Theo never resented the ESP, though, at least no more than any normal child resented the parents he loved, and although he had his normal share of tantrums, Theo worked very hard to make his leaders proud.
As a child, Theo was not permitted to leave the Skyscraper. Ever. Not only could he not control his precognition well enough to function in normal life, but the ESP selfishly guarded their best and most powerful asset. To them, Theo was not only a tool to use against the Elementals, he was a tool to use for the evolution of the ESP in the new world. He was a weapon of both offense AND defense, and they would not risk him getting hurt or killed or taken from them. Because he was so sheltered, Theo found other ways to explore the world, mostly books. He read with a voracious appetite and developed an extremely vivid imagination- a necessity for a child who did not get to have many friends.
As he got older, the ESP allowed Theo to explore the city, though never alone. He loves being outdoors, and the vibrant thrum of the city is always a welcome break from the Skyscraper. Theo enjoys the park, too, and he can't quite figure out why this seems to bother his guardians. Still, they let him explore as he wishes in the hopes that the city and the park will keep his curiosity in check. He has started to express a desire to go outside of Coho, but this remains strictly forbidden and Theo has not built up enough rebelliousness to go against their wishes. Instead, he contents himself with books and city explorations, and he has his favorite bookstore, favorite coffee shop, favorite café, and even a favorite spot in the park where he likes to read on pleasant days.
It wasn't until Theo reached his teenage years that he finally was able to start controlling his precognition. His "fits" aren't nearly as frequent, so he still suffers headaches. Overall, however, Theo has shown good progress in his quest to mastering his power, and he is eager to receive the final test and earn his code- just like any other 16 year old boy.
