welcome
Two magical factions crash landed on Earth thirty years ago, bringing with them amazing powers and war. The nature based Elementals and the mind based ESP have set up their respective camps in the forest and the city. On the surface, a shaky peace reigns. Non-magical folk struggle to adjust to the new comers, and many maintain a strong distrust of all magic and the violence it brought. Others, however, have chosen sides, and Old and New Magic alike comb the streets seeking to recruit allies as an underground guerilla warfare rages. Another war is coming and now it needs to be known: Which side are you on?
Currently, we have a ban on male ESP's. Please take a look at the stats to see what needs to be balanced! Help us Guest, you're our only hope!
For the few next days, the money you earn from posting has doubled! (Wooo!) Also, the member (not staff) who shows the most activity can talk with Parrot and we can plan something special for you. It could be a quest, a PvP thing, a special character, or the keys to a brand new car! (That was a joke) And if that doesn't interest you then we can discuss something else. My mind is always open ;)

Setting
Summer is here and with it comes the heat. The high is normally in the mid 90's- a blessing for some, a struggle for others. Those living in the city and town rely on air conditioning while the Elementals make due with the wind alone. Cicadas are starting to move out of the forest and into the town and they can be heard (quite loudly) every day.
Male OTM
Lynx If his charming half smile doesn't knock you off your feet than his witty one liners will. (That or he's going to trip you via Telekinesis.) Lynx is this month's winner for male OTM! A character who started off as an ass has actually turned out to be only kind of an ass. Lynx finds his pleasure in fast cars and even faster women, though this hasn't stopped him from protecting those he has reluctantly found himself caring for. Poor Lynx has spent more time being dragged through other people's mess that he hasn't had time to finish his car. Well, from all of us at WFM, we hope you get that time soon Lynx! Snarky Lynx is played by Devi.
Female OTM
Tabitha Holt Got hots for teacher? Well, who wouldn't when the teacher is Tabitha! This water Elemental has spent half of her time dragging Lynx around, recruiting him as an unlikely ally. Over the month Tabitha has seen her share of some grisly stuff- from drowning men (and women) to having her capture's head blown right off in front of her. She's no warrior but for some reason this little lady has been stuck fighting battles and running after kids instead of grading papers. Now with the FBI after her and the War Committee doubting her every move, we're pretty sure Tabitha's not going to get a break any time soon. Stubborn Tabitha is played by Parrot.
Thread OTM
Fanatically Fanatic If anyone says that WFM isn't action packed well they are wrong. Dead wrong. This thread is proof of that! We've got fanatics pulling people left and right off of the street, taking them hostage as they preach peace through violence. (Yeah, it works out as well as you think it would.) And soon four of our very own characters, who would normally never work together, have to overcome the fanatics and fight for their lives. Overcome they do, as Enzo blasts a guy's head off, Tabitha drowns a woman, Lynx throws chairs at people, and Asher shows off his acrobatic skills. In the end they make a getaway, but were they fast enough to avoid unwanted attention? Guess we'll find out when the site plot starts! Votes picked this thread for OTM due to its action and the fact that multiple players were involved. Thanks to all who contributed!
Member OTM
Dufflepud Congratulations to Duffle, our winner of member OTM! Duffle has been a great addition to WFM family as he brought with him the most awesome PvP factor to our site. Duffle has been great with his constructive ideas for the site and overall involvement. He is known to commoners as the Great and Powerful Arena Master but, humbly, prefers Duffle. He manages not only to run his own site, is active here, but he also goes on some pretty rockin' vacations. (Yes, we are very jealous. Thanks.) Duffle is always willing to give a helping hand to our guests and members, so, for that, we thank you. :)

Asher rubbed the back of his neck, not liking the situation at all. “I can’t disappear off the grid. Probably wouldn’t work anyway.” This was the FBI, after all. He figured it was best not to underestimate them, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to try to worm his way out of it anyways. “I don’t like any of the options either, but I’m thinking door number three is our best bet. Either way, I'm sure we'll figure something out.”
Truthfully, Asher didn’t really know how he got caught up in all of this either, as Lynx so gracefully put it. But he didn’t want to blame Lynx- with so many magical people around all of a sudden, it was bound to happen one of these days. He was just glad that he knew about the man’s ‘abilities’ beforehand: it wasn’t exactly new information, and even if Asher didn’t particularly enjoy that fact, it was better to know than not know. Still, the older man would probably be more useful- Asher could fly under the radar, but Lynx could hold his own against any other ESPs or Elementals or whatever they were calling themselves these days. And Asher wasn’t looking forward to getting killed anytime soon.
With one final sigh, he turned back to Atkinson and waved him over. Asher’s eyes were narrowed, and the agent’s expression seemed just a little too pleased with himself. The thief had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, but it was a little too late to turn back now, and he was still loathing himself from earlier.
“Fine. We’re in. But I want to know exactly what this is going to entail. Don’t spare us any details, you hear?” If he could get away with skipping out a bit here and there, even if it meant bending the agent’s words a bit, then he sure as hell was going to do it. He tapped his soft-soled boot on the pavement, half because this was rather urgent, and half because if he could annoy Atkinson maybe he’d give up on the two and bully some other poor soul into doing the dirty work.
Yep, wishful thinking was quickly becoming one of Asher’s strong points.

As Atkinson walked back over, it was impossible to miss the smug look on his face. Lynx disliked it immensely, and his grip on the box tightened in order to avoid showing his disdain on his face. He remembered why he hated suits with the passion of a rebellious teenager; they reminded him so much of the ESP leaders with their superiority complexes and controlling actions. Lynx couldn't help but glare at the man as Asher laid out the conditions of their..."employment"...
"I will explain everything you need to know," Atkinson replied confidently. Lynx was pretty sure that meant he would explain the absolute minimum that was necessary. "Shall we go somewhere more private to discuss the details?"
"No," Lynx retorted bluntly, feeling like anywhere indoors was would make eavesdropping far too easy. The last thing he needed was for an ESP working in the Skyscraper to report him. So far, Lynx had been dismissed from the ESP faction without much thought. In fact, Lynx wouldn't be surprised if the ESP leaders didn't even know he existed. But if it was reported that one of their kind was working for the FBI against the ESP? Or if they learned of him helping an Elemental? He'd never be left alone again. This only reminded him how screwed he was in this situation, and it was beginning to make his head hurt. "We can talk here," Lynx continued, his eyes sweeping briefly around the park to see if anyone was close enough to possibly hear them.
"Very well," Atkinson replied, looking slightly displeased. His displeasure brought Lynx great satisfaction. "What do you know about the war going on between the ESP and the Elementals?"
Lynx sighed, unable to refrain from rolling his eyes. "Not much," he answered. "It's been going on since before the Rift opened." A tense silence ensued as Atkinson clearly waited for more details. Lynx shrugged. "That's it, man. I peaced out when I was a kid."
The agent's lips pressed into a thin, obviously annoyed but unwilling to show it. Lynx wondered if maybe the guy didn't believe him, but it was essentially the truth. He didn't know any of the dirty details as he had given the conflict a wide berth from the day he escaped it. He had never been given a code, had never really been part of the cause other than the propaganda his parents would regurgitate. None of that seemed important or relevant, and Lynx wasn't exactly a sharer.
"What do you want us to do?" Lynx asked, deciding to just cut to the chase.
"We need information," Atkinson answered simply.
"About?"
"About the conflict, about what the ESP are working on and their technology, about the Elementals and their plans. We don't want to set off any alarms, of course, this is purely for informational purposes to maintain peace and protect the public."
"Riiiight," Lynx drawled dryly.

Asher was still unconvinced. He bit his bottom lip and turned his blue eyes down to gaze at his shoes as he thought. He’d have to be cautious, he reminded himself- besides, when were the FBI ever known for being open and honest? Yeah. That’s what he thought.
“So let me get this straight.” He started, holding a long, slightly scarred finger up. “You want us to collect information. On these ESP and Elemental or whatevers. And that’s it.” Atkinson nodded and opened his mouth to say something, but Asher was quick to cut in before he had the opportunity. “If that’s that, if then why can’t you do it yourselves? It can’t be that difficult, can it?” I mean, you already know more than I do. But the teen was careful not to vocalize that last thought. Lynx would know more than anyone (or so he hoped);’d have the opportunity to get up to speed later.
This time the agent was unfazed, as if the question was to be expected and he had prepared an answer long ago. “Because, we need feet on the ground. Flashing badges aren’t going to get us the answers we want, if we get any at all.”
Well. Asher was hoping to be able to poke some holes in the agent’s answer, but his head was swimming with thoughts and he was finding it hard to contend with Atkinson. How hard would it be to come by information? Or even make up some along the way, anything to get him to go away. Now there was an idea that Asher could get behind.
He glanced over to Lynx, gauging his reaction. He wanted to talk to the older thief, in private and without Atkinson standing right there, so they could discuss the matter further. He wondered what it would take to get the agent to leave.
“Well, if that’s all you want…” Asher left off, and then almost half winced. His statement could be interpreted as open ended, and that was quite literally the last thing he wanted was for Doug to continue with his list of what was going to be required of them.
ooc; Sorry it's so short, we've been incredibly busy the past few days and I didn't want to leave you hanging for too long!

"Feet on the ground" sounded an awful lot like "scapegoat" and "expendable" to Lynx, but he didn't say that out loud. He just grunted in response, crossing his arms across his chest and regarding Atkinson with a scowl. The request was simple, far too simple for comfort, and Lynx didn't like it. He and Asher were going to have to tread very carefully if they wanted to make it out of this debacle in one piece.
"Well, if that's all you want..."
Lynx could have kicked Asher in the shins right then and there, but he had a feeling that wouldn't look good in front of Atkinson. The FBI agent just smiled, a self-satisfied sort of smirk- that Lynx wanted to smack right off the asshole's face. Sheesh, he was getting cranky!
"For now," the agent replied, digging around in the pocket of his suit jacket before withdrawing two business cards. He handed one to Asher and one to Lynx, explaining, "This is how you can get ahold of me if you need to."
"And how do you intend on getting ahold of us?" Lynx asked, taking the small card in his hands and turning it over in his fingers.
"Oh, we'll be in touch," Doug answered, his smile growing. Again, Lynx grunted.
"Sounds great. C'mon, Asher," he mumbled, grabbing the younger thief by the shoulder and steering him across the park. "We are so fucked," he said as soon as they were out of earshot of Atkinson, spinning to face Asher as she shoved the FBI card into his jean pocket and shifted his grip on the box of headllghts.
