Vincenzo Torrigiano
Nickname: "Enzo"
Race: Magical Human
Gender: Male
Age: Sixteen
Faction: New Magic
Power: Powerful Telekinesis - Enzo is capable of "brute force" telekinesis, lacking much of the finesse and control that other telekinetics possess. He can't unlock a car door with his mind, but he can rip it off of its hinges. He specializes in the direct application of energy to targets in the form of telekinetic blasts. Although brutally effective in many scenarios, Enzo is often forced to simply not use his power because of the collateral damage it might cause.
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 160lbs
Appearance: Quite tall for his age, Enzo is often mistaken for being older due to both his physical features, and his lower voice. He has dense, nearly black hair that is usually quite messy, as well as dark brown eyes. His has little facial hair - a trait common in males of his family, and tan-colored skin that rarely burns. In general, he looks quite southern-Italian. His wiry frame is deceivingly strong, and his limbs are covered in small scars he's acquired over his years of living on the streets. He is often appears tired, as the constant vigilance required to survive has worn him down. However, on occasion his true, extroverted nature will shine through. Enzo generally wears durable jeans that have been stitched up dozens of times, as well as a patched up brown leather jacket that he found in a dumpster.
Personality: Ordinarily, Enzo is a logical, analytical person with a cuttingly sarcastic sense of humor. He has a full range of emotions, but rarely lets them show or impact his decisions. However, he possesses a deep seated hatred for Elementals due to the slaughter of his family. Although he still doesn't remember his parents' names or faces due to the mental block given to him, he does remember the happiness and security he felt, and how that was torn from him. He sees the Elementals as crazed zealots, and takes pleasure in killing them. Although he is naturally a moral person, with much empathy for those he views as innocent, he is capable of setting this aside to satisfy his anger. He is often known to be somewhat of a trickster, and has somewhat of a weakness for taunting others. Although he hates them, he does hold a certain respect for Elementals who can hold their own in a fight, viewing them the way a hunter might view "worthy prey."
Strengths: - Enzo is incredibly intelligent, able to make connections based on his observations that others fail to grasp.
- His telekinesis is extremely powerful, and a useful tool for killing or fighting.
Weaknesses:
- His telekinesis cannot be toned down, and will result in accidental destruction if he isn't careful
- His memories are still distorted and hard to access due to his mental block
- Although intellectually quite mature, Enzo has the emotional maturity of a child.
Biography: Born to an telepathic mother and a mundane father of Sicilian descent, Enzo's family was a functional one. His mother and father both worked, and as such were able to support a comfortable life in the outskirts of the city. This, however, would not last. Although they viewed practitioners of New Magic as blasphemers already, the Elementals were only more angered by one that would choose to "consort" with a non magical person. As such, at the age of ten, the young child found his family slaughtered and his home destroyed. With nowhere to go, he was forced onto the streets, where he would survive for the next few years.
The first to die was his father. When he heard the three masked intruders breaking into their house, he immediately grabbed the twelve gauge shotgun he kept under his bed, walking down the stairs and ordering the trio to leave. His ignorance of magic would be his undoing - he would die without understanding why. When their leader only grinned at him, he racked the slide of the weapon, shouldering it and firing. One simply put up her hand, her control over metal allowing her to cause the weapon to backfire before the pellets could leave the barrel. It exploded in his face, and he fell to the ground clutching his blinded eyes. Cowering behind his mother upstairs, Enzo could make little sense of what was happening. However, when he saw a flash of red light, and heard his father's yell cut short, he immediately began to cry.
His mother, turning to him, placed her hands on his forehead. The, he felt a
twisting sensation in his mind, as if a foreign entity were probing around inside of his brain. the next thing he knew, he was outside, feeling the heat against his back from the flames that now engulfed the home he had grown up in. As he left, he could faintly hear voices yelling over the inhuman screams of someone burning alive. After another ten minutes, he had forgotten the entire incident. After twenty, he'd forgotten much of his life. The next morning, he was a new person; and orphan who had lived on the streets for as long as he could remember.
By the age of twelve he was an adept pickpocket, as as the city had undergone major changes in towards development, he had little competition. By fourteen, he was already tall enough to pass for much older, and people rarely questioned him when he walked into a supermarket unaccompanied to purchase food. It was at fifteen, however, when he first truly entered the "world" of magic. As he was walking down the street, he heard the sounds of a fight happening in an alleyway. Nigh fights were a common occurrence, but something about this felt
different. He made his way down the alleyway, sticking to the shadows, well practiced in the art of going unnoticed. Peeking round the corner, the site that greeted him next would be life changing. Two figures fought in the dark, each obviously a skilled combatant. One, a female, was seemed to be tearing bricks out of the surrounding walls... with her mind. They swirled around above her, a constant supply of ammunition as she hurled the things at high speeds toward her adversary. The other had strange, luminescent blades that projected from his arms. He was incredible agile, able to dodge the bricks, but finding himself blocked every time he tried to get within range of the woman. His arms moved in a blur, cutting through her projectiles with ease, but they would simply re form only to be used again. The fight seemed to be at a standstill for some time, but eventually one of the pieces of stone clipped the man's shoulder, flipping him over. He landed with a thud, the wind knocked from his lungs.
Casually, the woman stepped over, a stone hammer forming around her arm. Kneeling, she lifted the weapon above her head as if to strike. Enzo's reaction was instantaneous, and a blast of telekinetic energy slammed into her flank, catching the woman by surprise and throwing her several yards, where she slammed into the concrete. Enzo quickly walked over to help the downed man, but the combatant was on his feet before the boy reached him. After finishing off the woman, he turned back to Enzo, grabbed him by the arm without saying a word, and took him to what he would later come to know as the ESP Headquarters building.
There he met with an interrogator, who asked him a number of questions that he simply couldn't answer. Thinking him to be uncooperative, she tried to scan his mind telepathically, and found it completely encased in a mental block, the likes of which she had never seen. Several other telepaths were brought in, and through their combined efforts, they were able to degrade the block, allowing Enzo, for the first time in years, to experience his memories. Images of his father and mother being killed, and his home burning began to flood his mind, and he begged them to stop.
They halted the process, but it was enough. Not only was his memory mostly returned, but so was his long-buried anger. A week later, he had officially joined the ESP faction in direct opposition to the Old Magic forces. For the past year, he has worked as a field agent of sorts, something his years of street experience have molded him into being well suited for. He tracks and hunts down isolated elementals, killing them as a kind of sport. He is known for his cruelty, and his trickster-personality and lack of emotional development allow him to take great pleasure in toying with victims.
RP Sample: "Shit!" cursed Enzo under his breath, as the three elementals fanned out around him. They all appeared to be novices - none could have been older than he. Evidently they'd gone out alone to prove themselves to their elders by killing an ESP agent. Unfortunately, they'd chosen him. '
Unfortunately for them, that is!' he thought to himself. He couldn't help but allow a grin to spread across his face. Yes, he was outnumbered, but with any luck he would come out on top. This certainly wasn't an ideal situation - being cornered in the dark by three well equipped assailants never was - but it wasn't as if Enzo was not prepared.
"Time to die, ESP filth!" one called out in a tone intended to be menacing. However, given that the his voice hadn't yet broken, it only elicited a chuckle from Enzo. The elemental's response was to hurl a streak of lightning in his direction, lighting up the otherwise darkened alleyway as if someone had set off the flash of an enormous camera. Enzo leapt upwards, repelling off of the ground with his telekinesis and levitating a dozen feet up into the air. The blast of electricity slammed into the ground where he had been standing, sending up a dusty column of rock fragments. With one hand directed downwards to keep him in the air, the other he brought up to produce a telekinetic barrier, just in time to divert an incoming fireball around him. It dispersed on contact, obscuring their view of him with a wall of swirling red and orange. Releasing his hold on the ground, Enzo dropped out of the air, taking advantage of their surprise to direct a telekinetic shockwave at the duo, blowing them off of their feet without doing any real damage. He slowed his descent, touching down lightly just as his adversaries began to pick themselves up.
"Need a hand?" he taunted, taking hold of the lightning user and lifting him up into the air, before slamming him back down into the concrete with immense concussive force. He could hear several of the boy's ribs break with a sickening crackle - not a bad enough injury to kill, but certainly enough to incapacitate. The other one was already conjuring more flame, but Enzo simply swatted him aside with a telekinetic backhand that rammed him forcefully into a nearby brick wall, kicking up a small cloud of dust upon impact. The boy moaned, and Enzo walked over, satisfied with his work.
"I would say better luck next time, but..." he quipped, lifting his hand high into the air. He technically didn't need to do that to create a damaging strike, as it wasn't actually his hand so much as a short range blast of energy that was making contact with the victim. However, it was much more fun if one did so. Suddenly, he halted, glancing around suspiciously.
"Wasn't there a third-" he thought out loud, only to be cut short by an uprooted street light slamming into his midsection. Luckily, he still had the pent up energy in his arm to slow down his momentum and land lightly, but the breath had been knocked from his lungs and he wheezed as he struggled to get up off of hands and knees.
He barely managed to erect another barrier as the pole was driven into it, barely breaking through and grazing his arm. Looking up, he saw only a single girl, wielding the makeshift weapon from afar. He noticed a thin line of red across his forearm - she must have whittled the thing down to a sharp point in the past minute or so.
"So you just watched while I beat up your friends?" he called out, firing a blast that she easily deflected. Metal users were some of the most annoying types to deal with.
"I wanted to kill you myself!" she responded, her voice utterly without fear. A confidence he meant to correct. She drove forward again, but this time he didn't erect a barrier, simply moving to the side and repulsing the pole with his left hand. Although he was strong, he couldn't control an old magic user's own element better than they unless they were particularly weak. This one appeared to be anything but. However, the girl was surprised by the lack of resistance, overextending herself and stumbling forwards. She, expecting him to take advantage of the opening by attacking her directly, immediately whirled about to defend against any kinetic blasts. Instead, Enzo simply ripped the supports out of the brick wall behind her. The entire thing came crashing down, and she barely managed to escape the collapse that buried the fire user behind her. Even so, one of the bricks collided with her back, sending her sprawling. Immediately taking advantage, Enzo lifted her up several inches, before repeatedly ramming her against the ground Stepping over the body of the unconscious first boy, he made his way over to her. He knelt down, looking her over. Ordinarily he'd have no qualms about killing her, but he generally found defenseless victims to be distasteful. Of course, he had killed at least one of the boys, maybe both, but that had been unavoidable.
Instead, he dragged her back behind a dumpster. With any luck, she'd wake up in a few hours and go back into the forest. Getting up, he turned about, making his way back into the main street. He'd let his attacker live this time, but if she ever came after him again, he wouldn't be so uncharacteristically merciful.
